AGE
The offenders age displayed similar patterns across the various states and territories. Offenders aged 15 to 19 years consistently accounted for the largest proportion of total offenders for each of the states and territories, ranging from 17% in the Northern Territory to 32% in the Australian Capital Territory. The Australian Capital Territory had the highest proportion of offenders aged less than 20 years (41%), followed by New South Wales (37%). The lowest proportion of offenders aged less than 20 years was in the Northern Territory at 22%. Offending rates decreased in a fairly consistent manner as the offender's age increased.
