AVAILABILITY AND RELEASE OF SA1-BASED AND CD-BASED ERP
SA1 and SA1-Based Population Estimates
Remoteness Area Population Estimates
2006 CD and CD-Based Population Estimates
Availability Timetable
SA1 AND SA1-BASED POPULATION ESTIMATES
SA2 population estimates will be broken down into SA1s, which can then be aggregated to form the other hierarchies of the ABS Structure. These include the Urban Centres and Localities/Section of State Structures and the Remoteness Area Structure. SA1s can also be aggregated to Non-ABS Structures including Postal Areas, State Suburbs and Electoral Divisions.
Population estimates will not be available for Mesh Blocks.
Totals
Population estimates for SA1s from 2001 to 2011 will be made available in July 2012, at the same time of release of Regional Population Growth, Australia, 2001-2011 (cat. no. 3218.0). Non-ABS geographies which are built up from SA1s including Postal Areas (POA), State Suburbs (SSC), Commonwealth Electoral Divisions (CED) and State Electoral Divisions (SED) will also be available. These estimates will be final for 2001 to 2006 and rebased for 2007 to 2011.
Significant Urban Areas (SUA) will be released in Regional Population Growth, Australia, 2011-12 (cat. no 3218.0) in March 2013 as an Excel spreadsheet. As part of this release, ASGS-based Urban Centres and Localities (UC/L) and Section of State (SOS) ERP will be made available for the first time.
Final 2007 to 2011 SA1-based population estimates will be available in August 2013.
Age/Sex
SA1-based estimates by age/sex for 30 June 2011 will be made available in August 2012, at the same time of release of Populations by Age and Sex, Regions of Australia, 2001-2011 (cat. no. 3235.0). ERP for Postal Areas, State Suburbs, Commonwealth Electoral Divisions and State Electoral Divisions which have been built up from SA1s will also be made available on request as a consultancy.
Final 2011 SA1-based population estimates by age/sex will be available in August 2013, along with other SA1-based estimates including Significant Urban Areas, Urban Centres and Localities and Section of State for the first time.
There are no plans to prepare SA1-based population estimates by age/sex for years prior to 2011.
REMOTENESS AREA POPULATION ESTIMATES
Totals
ERP by Remoteness Areas for 2001 to 2011 will be prepared and released in Regional Population Growth, Australia, 2001-2011 (cat. no. 3218.0) in July 2012. However, because the ASGS Remoteness Structure will not be released until late 2012, these estimates will be based on 2006 ASGC Remoteness Areas.
Population estimates by ASGS Remoteness Structure will be provided for the first time in Regional Population Growth, Australia, 2011-12 (cat. no. 3218.0) in March 2013. A time series back to 2002 will also be included. These estimates will be final for 2002 to 2006 and rebased for 2007 to 2011.
Final ERP by ASGS Remoteness Structure for 2007 to 2011 will be released in August 2013.
Age/sex
ERP by ASGC Remoteness Areas by age/sex for 2001 to 2011 will be available in August 2012. These estimates will be final for 2001 to 2006 and rebased for 2007 to 2011.
Final population estimates by ASGS Remoteness Structure by age/sex for 2001 to 2011 will be available in August 2013.
2006 CD AND CD-BASED POPULATION ESTIMATES
CDs are small spatial units, designed for Census collection purposes. CDs were last defined for the 2006 Census.
Totals
Final 2001 to 2006 CD and CD-based ERP were prepared in 2008. Rebased ERP by CD for 2007 to 2011 will be made available in July 2012, along with estimates for CD-based geographies including Postal Areas, State Suburbs, Commonwealth Electoral Divisions and State Electoral Divisions.
Final CD-based ERP for 2007 to 2011 will be made available in August 2013. This will be the last time, however, that CD-based ERP will be prepared. Estimates from 30 June 2012 will only be available for SA1-based areas.
Age/sex
Final 2001 to 2006 CD-based ERP by age and sex were prepared in 2008.
Rebased and final 2007 to 2011 CD-based ERP will be available in August 2012 and August 2013 respectively, and this will be the last time that CD-based population estimates are prepared.
