    OVERVIEW

    This survey collected information on travel patterns and preferences for persons aged 18 years and over in New South Wales. The information collected included the form of transport used on the last trip to work, education or any other travel. Information was also collected on reasons for using the form of transport, problems experienced with public transport and characteristics such as home ownership and residential location choice.

    PURPOSE

    The aims of this survey was to collect information on:

    • personal transport characteristics such as mode of transport in the last week;
    • reasons for choosing motor vehicle/cycle or reasons for using public transport;
    • problems experienced with public transport;
    • reasons for choosing other means of transport and characteristics such as home ownership; and
    • residential location choice.

    SCOPE

    Scope: NSW civilian population aged 18 and over who were usual residents of private dwellings, except:

    • members of the permanent defence forces;
    • certain diplomatic personnel of overseas governments, customarily excluded from census and estimated populations;
    • overseas residents in Australia;
    • members of non-Australian defence forces (and their dependants) stationed in Australia.

    Coverage: In the survey, coverage rules were applied which aimed to ensure that each person was associated with only one dwelling, and hence only had one chance of selection in the survey.

    Language spoken at home - English only, Italian, Greek, Arabic/Lebanese, Chinese, Spanish, Other

    Region - Formed by aggregation of standard statistical divisions. Minimum level in publication and unpublished tables - Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong (combined) and Balance of NSW
