    OVERVIEW
    The Stocks of Frozen Poultry and Game Birds collection form was sent to all establishments contributing to the quarterly Poultry and Game Birds collection. Respondents were asked to report all stocks of frozen poultry and game birds held in their store(s) at 30 June (regardless of ownership).

    PURPOSE
    The purpose of the survey was to measure total stocks of frozen poultry as at 30 June each year. The survey was conducted specifically for the Apparent Consumption of Foodstuffs series, and the results were incorporated in the estimation of food consumption series.

    SCOPE
    Respondents who report poultry figures on a quarterly basis are also approached on an annual basis to provide information regarding stocks of frozen poultry.

    DATA DETAIL

    Conceptual framework
    The frozen poultry data was collected annually from all commercial poultry establishments who participated in the quarterly collection Poultry and Game Birds Slaughtered.

    Main outputs
    Australia-level aggregates of each data cell. Information on dressed weight of frozen poultry was collected for chickens, hens and stags, ducks and drakes, turkeys, geese and other poultry slaughtered.

    Classifications
    Data was collected for stocks as at 30 June in the current and previous years.

    The classifications for type of stocks collected were:

    • Chickens
      • Meat chickens, cockerels and capons (including broilers, fryers and roasters)
      • Hens and Stags
    • Ducks and drakes
    • Turkeys
    • Geese
    • Other poultry and game birds (including quails, pheasants, pigeons, etc.)


    Data items collected included:
    • for poultry
      • Number in stock; and
      • Dressed weight (Kg);

    COLLECTION FREQUENCY

    Frequency comments
    The Agricultural Programme has decided to reduce the frequency of the Apparent Consumption of Foodstuffs (ACF) series to every five years, to coincide with the Agricultural Census (AC). The Stocks of Frozen Poultry collection, therefore, will not be undertaken again until 2005/6 which is the year for the next ACF collection.

    COLLECTION HISTORY

    The survey was conducted specifically for the Apparent Consumption of Foodstuffs (ACF) series, and the results were incorporated in the estimation of food consumption series. With the discontinuation of the Apparent Consumption of Foodstuffs collection, the Stocks of Frozen Poultry collection is no longer run. The final collection related to 1999/2000.
