AUSTRALIAN BUREAU OF STATISTICS (ABS)

NAME OF COLLECTION

Managing Caring Responsibilities and Paid Employment, New South Wales

OVERVIEW

'Managing Caring Responsibilities and Paid Employment, New South Wales' is a one-off survey conducted in October 2000 as a supplement to the Monthly Population Survey (MPS). The survey provides information on the relationship between people's caring responsibilities and their work situation in New South Wales.

The purpose of the survey is to investigate the labour force experience of those who currently have or have had caring responsibilities, including people's use of maternity leave and other working arrangements. This information will assist government departments to develop policies for the workplace.

Topics include caring responsibilities, employment, working arrangements and maternity leave. Data items include frequency of care, type of work arrangements, employees used to care for another person in the last 6 months, whether additional work arrangements were desired, whether caring responsibilities influenced a person's decision to become self employed, whether caring responsibilities were a reason people were not seeking paid work, and whether women resigned from a job because sufficient maternity leave was not available.
