In 2002, the assault victim rate was 717.2 per 100,000 persons in the Greater Hobart-Southern Region. This represented a decrease from the 2001 rate (721.6) and an increase from the 2000 rate (568.1).

The rate of unlawful entry with intent continued to decrease in the Greater Hobart-Southern Region, with 1,657.0 per 100,000 persons recorded in 2002, compared to 2,328.2 in 2001 and 2,374.8 in 2000.

In 2002, the rate of victims of motor vehicle theft was 723.6 per 100,000 persons. This was a decrease from the 2001 rate of 1,023.1 and from the 2000 rate of 988.2.
