In 2002, the assault victim rate was 762.1 per 100,000 persons in the Mersey-Lyell Region. This was an increase from the 2001 rate of 696.5 and the 2000 rate of 570.9. The rate of sexual assault victims also increased in 2002, with 68.6 victims per 100,000 persons, compared to the 2001 rate of 53.4 and the 2000 rate of 43.8.

The rate of unlawful entry with intent in the Mersey-Lyell Region decreased, with 1,560.8 victims per 100,000 persons recorded in 2002, compared to 1,691.5 in 2001 and 1,791.1 in 2000.
