ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
- In original terms, the March 2009 merchandise imports were $17,318m, an increase of $767m (5%) on the revised February 2009 merchandise imports of $16,551m.
PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
- Preliminary analysis shows that goods imports (debits) on a balance of payments basis decreased by $748m (4%) in seasonally adjusted terms from $18,481m in February 2009 to $17,733m in March 2009. Other goods fell $639m (32%) with non-monetary gold down $806m (46%). Capital goods fell $563m (12%) and intermediate and other merchandise goods fell $207m (3%). Consumption goods rose $661m (15%) with consumption goods n.e.s., up $206m (13%), textiles, clothing and footwear, up $134m (21%) and non-industrial transport equipment, up $104m (13%).
