INTRODUCTION

Input–Output (I–O) tables are part of the Australian national accounts, complementing the quarterly and annual series of national income, expenditure and product aggregates. They provide detailed information about the supply and use of products in the Australian economy and about the structure of and inter–relationships between Australian industries.

This publication contains the preliminary release of the input–output tables for 2006–07 and includes input by industry and output by product group; use of domestic production and imports by industry and final demand categories, taxes and margins on supply by product and concordances for classifications (Tables 1–4, 23–40).

The 2006–07 Input Output tables are the first to be produced on the 2006 Australian and New Zealand Industry Classification (ANZSIC06) and 2008 System of National Accounts (SNA08) basis.

For further information about these and related statistics, contact the National Information and Referral Service on 1300 135 070.

MAIN FEATURES

The tables presented here are the basic transaction tables of the input–output suite of tables. The tables in this release will be re–released, to take account of user feedback, along with the rest of the coefficients, industry flow and margins tables (5–10,17,19–20) in December 2010.

With the release of tables for 2006–07 the ABS has completed 22 input–output tables for Australia. Previous tables were for 1958–59, 1962–63, 1968–69, 1974–75, for each year from 1977–78 to 1983–84, 1986–87, 1989–90, 1992–93 to 1994–95, 1996–97, 1998–99, 2001–02, 2004–05 and 2005–06 tables.

TABLES

A list of the 2006–07 input–output tables available in this release can be accessed by clicking the downloads tab. They include tables that record input by industry, output by product group and taxes and margin matrices.

The structure of the tables has changed from the 2005–06 tables due to the adoption of ANZSIC06 and SNA08. There are now 112 product and industry groups however users should note that the IO tables report for 111 of these groups due to confidentiality reasons. However the underlying methodology used in their construction has been kept consistent with the 2005–06 input–output tables release.

Explanatory notes and classifications are available in electronic form.
