NOTES

REVISIONS TO TRAVEL CREDITS BY STATE (TABLE 3)

The methodology for calculating travel credits by state has changed. Formerly state allocation of education-related travel credits were calculated based on intended state of stay for student sub-class visa holders as provided by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection. State allocation is now determined using state of enrolment data as sourced from Department of Education and Training’s Commonwealth Provider Registration and International Student Management System. The new methodology has been used to produce the 2015-16 data, and subsequently revise data from 2012-13 to 2014-15, so that a historical time-series is available to users. Because of this change in methodology, a trend break occurs for all states from 2012-13.

REVISIONS TO TRANSPORT DEBITS BY COUNTRY (TABLE 6)

As per the International Trade: Supplementary Information, Calendar Year, 2015 (cat. no. 5368.0.55.004), the methodology for calculating transport sea freight debits by country has changed. Formerly country allocation of sea freight debits were calculated based on sea freight direct commissions data as collected from the ABS Survey of International Trade in Services. Country allocation is now determined using country of beneficial owner data as sourced from Bloomberg and the World Shipping Register. This is a more accurate reflection of international trade in sea freight, and has caused revisions from 2006-07 (source data prior to 2006-07 was unavailable or not fit for purpose). Because of this change in methodology, a trend break occurs for several countries from 2005-06 to 2006-07.
