AUGUST KEY POINTS


ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
  • In original terms, the August 2011 merchandise imports were $20,521m, an increase of $806m (4%) on the July 2011 merchandise imports of $19,715m.


PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
  • Preliminary analysis shows that goods debits (imports) on a balance of payments basis in original terms rose $1,604m (8%) between July and August 2011. In seasonally adjusted terms goods debits rose $733m (4%) from $19,437m in July 2011 to $20,170m in August 2011. Intermediate and other merchandise goods rose $617m (7%). This increase was driven by the fuels and lubricants component up $325m (11%), following a fall of $457m (14%) between June and July 2011, and the processed industrial supplies n.e.s. component up $242m (11%) between July and August 2011. Consumption goods rose $194m (4%) and non-monetary gold rose $6m (1%). Capital goods fell $83m (2%).


REVISIONS
  • The merchandise imports series have been revised for the previous six months to incorporate the latest administrative data.
