MAY KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat production monthly trend movements for June 2017:
  • Cattle slaughter increased by 9,900 head or 1.7% for June 2017 when compared with May 2017 and there was a year-on-year increase of 5,140 head or 0.9%.
  • The number of calves slaughtered in June 2017 decreased by 0.7% month-on-month and when compared to this period last year decreased by 20,500 head or 41.8%.
  • Sheep slaughter in June 2017 increased by 13,700 or 2.4% head compared with May 2017 and was up 21,400 head or 3.7% year-on-year.
  • Lamb slaughters decreased marginally, down 0.1% for June 2017. Compared with June 2016, slaughters decreased by 29,500 head or 1.6%.
  • Pig slaughter increased by 1,800 head or 0.4% when compared to May 2017 and continued to increase year on year with slaughters up 10,400 head or 2.4% on this period last year
