OCTOBER KEY POINTS


ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
  • In original terms, the October 2012 merchandise imports were $22,345m, an increase of $3,040m (16%) on the September 2012 merchandise imports of $19,305m.


PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
  • Preliminary analysis shows that goods debits (imports) on a balance of payments basis in original terms rose $2,942m (15%) between September and October 2012.
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, goods debits rose $771m (4%) from $20,413m in September 2012 to $21,184m in October 2012. Capital goods rose $674m (13%) driven by the capital goods n.e.s. component, up $491m (43%) and civil aircraft and confidentialised items component, up $130m (35%). Consumption goods rose $152m (3%) and intermediate and other merchandise goods rose $84m (1%). Non–monetary gold fell $138m (20%).


REVISIONS
  • Revisions have been made to the previous six months to incorporate the latest administrative data relating to international merchandise trade.
  • The preliminary balance of payments debits estimates incorporate the latest available data.
