The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) acknowledges the traditional custodians of country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures, and Elders, both past and present.

The ABS is committed to early and ongoing conversations with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to help shape an upcoming health survey. There are many ways you can provide your feedback to us:

Attend a Workshop

Workshops will be run in a number of cities, towns and remote areas between March and June 2020. For more information or to register please visit CoEATSIS Eventbrite Registration page, or contact the ABS at coeatsis@abs.gov.au.

These workshops are a chance to talk about your views on survey design and operation, and will focus on three broad topics:

  1. Content of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander surveys
  2. Biomedical tests and ethics
  3. Data integration – getting the most out of data

Attend a Community Session

Community sessions will be run in a number of cities, towns and remote areas between March and June 2020. For more information or to register please visit CoEATSIS Eventbrite Registration page, or contact the ABS at coeatsis@abs.gov.au.

These community sessions are a chance for you to come and talk about the health surveys with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Managers and other ABS staff. You can share your thoughts on the surveys or just find out more about what happens when you take part in an ABS survey, and how the information is collected and shared with people and communities.

Connect with an Engagement Manager

The ABS has Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Managers in each state and territory who are keen to have discussions with you, either at a community session or directly if you prefer.

Complete our eSurvey

The electronic survey covers a range of key topics and discussion points on Health Survey Planning as well as the ability to provide general comments. For those interested, the survey can be accessed here: ABS Consultation Hub

Write to us

The ABS invites people to submit written feedback. The paper Future Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Surveys - Have Your Say, provides information about the upcoming survey and seeks your feedback on a number of topics.

Submissions are welcome until 15 June 2020 and can be forwarded electronically or in hard copy using the contact details below.
