APRIL KEY POINTS

SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during April 2019 (769,300 movements) decreased by 0.4% when compared with March 2019 (772,100 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 0.2% for February 2019 and 0.3% for March 2019. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 0.5% higher than in April 2018.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During April 2019, short-term visitor arrivals (765,100 movements) decreased by 0.2% when compared with March 2019 (766,400 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 0.6% for February 2019 and a decrease of 1.9% for March 2019.
  • Original estimates: There were 700,400 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in April 2019.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT RETURNS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident returns during April 2019 (917,500 movements) decreased by 0.5% when compared with March 2019 (922,400 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 0.5% for both February and March 2019. When compared to April 2018, the current trend estimate for returns remained steady.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During April 2019, short-term resident returns (914,800 movements) decreased by 1.1% when compared with March 2019 (924,600 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 3.1% for February 2019 and a monthly increase of 1.5% for March 2019.
  • Original estimates: There were 916,400 short-term resident returns to Australia in April 2019.
