This publication contains estimates of the quantity of grain stored in grain storage facilities operated by bulk grain handling companies and major grain traders in Australia as at 28 February 2003. It also includes estimates of the quantity of grain stored by these businesses at 31 December 2002 and 31 January 2003.


KEY POINTS

The total quantity of grain held in storage facilities operated by bulk grain handling companies and major grain traders reduced by 8.6% from 16,213,700 tonnes recorded at 31 January 2003 to 14,823,900 tonnes at 28 February 2003. In the same period, wheat reduced from 11,434,100 tonnes to 10,479,600 tonnes, a fall of 8.3% and barley fell by 10% to 2,853,900 tonnes from the January figure of 3,170,100 tonnes. The quantity of oats held in storage facilities operated by bulk handling companies and major grain traders rose by 3.9% in the month of February from 137,400 tonnes recorded at 31 January 2003 to 142,800 tonnes at 28 February 2003.
