Tasmanian mining operations are mainly concentrated in the Mersey-Lyell and Northern Regions of the state. Both metallic minerals and non-metallic minerals, including fuel minerals, are produced.

Tasmania's most significant known metallic and non-metallic resources are:

  • metallic minerals - base metals (copper, lead, zinc, nickel and tin), gold and iron ore
  • non-metallic (excluding fuel) minerals - clay and limestone.

The state's significant known energy resources are:
  • fuel minerals - coal
