TREND

  • The September quarter 2006 trend estimate of the total value of building work commenced rose 4.0% from the June quarter estimate.
  • The value of new residential building commenced rose 1.4% in the September quarter 2006. New house commencements rose 3.2% while new other residential commencements fell 2.8%. The value of commencements for alterations and additions to residential buildings rose 3.4%. The value of non-residential building rose by 6.5%.

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, the total value of building work commenced fell 2.2% in the September quarter 2006, to $15,575.9m.
  • Commencements of new residential buildings fell 1.7%, to $7,733.4m. New house commencements rose 1.6%, to $5,553.1m, while new other residential building fell 9.1%, to $2,180.4m. Alterations and additions rose 8.9%, to $1,590.8m. Non-residential work commenced fell 5.3%, to $6,251.7m.
