  • The trend estimates of the total and non-residential value of building commenced have not been adjusted for BER and should be used with caution.
  • The trend estimate of the total value of building work commenced rose 15.4% in the December quarter 2009 and is 26.7% higher than December 2008.
  • The value of new residential building commenced rose 8.1%. The value of new house commencements rose 8.5% and new other residential commencements rose 6.4%. The value of commencements for alterations and additions to residential buildings rose 4.9%. The value of non-residential building commenced rose by 19.6%.

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, the estimate of the total value of building work commenced in the December quarter rose 16.5% following a rise of 33.3% in September.
  • Commencements of new residential buildings rose 15.2% to $9,204.7m. New house commencements rose 14.8%, to $6,784.8m, and new other residential building rose 16.4% to $2,419.9m. Alterations and additions rose 14.4% to $1,689.8m. Non-residential work commenced rose 17.8%, to $11,689.9m.
