The chart below shows the trend series and seasonally adjusted series to September 2014.

In current prices, the trend estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.3% in September 2014 following a rise of 0.3% in August 2014 and a rise of 0.3% in July 2014.

The seasonally adjusted estimate for Australian turnover rose 1.2% in September 2014 following a rise of 0.1% in August 2014 and a rise of 0.4% July 2014.

The original estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.7% in September 2014. The original estimate for chains and other larger retailers rose 0.2% in September 2014. The original estimate for smaller retailers rose 1.6% in September 2014.

TOTAL RETAIL - QUARTERLY

In volume terms, the seasonally adjusted estimate for the September quarter 2014 rose 1.0% following a fall of 0.1% in the June quarter 2014 and a rise of 1.3% in the March quarter 2014.

In the September quarter 2014, the seasonally adjusted estimate rose in volume terms for Household goods retailing (1.7%), Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food retailing (1.5%), Clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing (2.0%), Other retailing (0.9%), Food retailing (0.2%) and Department stores (0.1%).

The Implicit Price Deflator for Australian turnover rose 0.3% in seasonally adjusted terms in the September quarter 2014.


TOTAL RETAIL - BY STATE

The following states and territories rose in trend terms in September 2014: New South Wales (0.5%), Victoria (0.5%), Western Australia (0.4%), South Australia (0.3%), the Australian Capital Territory (0.8%) and Tasmania (0.1%). Queensland (-0.1%) and the Northern Territory (-0.2%) fell in trend terms in September 2014.

The following states and territories rose in seasonally adjusted terms in September 2014: New South Wales (1.7%), Victoria (1.3%), Western Australia (1.3%), Queensland (0.4%), South Australia (1.2%), the Australian Capital Territory (1.9%) and Tasmania (0.8%). The Northern Territory (-0.6%) fell in seasonally adjusted terms in September 2014.

In the September quarter 2014, the seasonally adjusted estimate rose in volume terms in the following states: New South Wales (1.5%), Victoria (1.6%), Western Australia (0.9%), South Australia (1.1%), the Australian Capital Territory (2.4%) and Tasmania (0.1%). Queensland (-0.6%) and the Northern Territory (-1.2%) fell in volume terms in the September quarter 2014.
