WEB PRESENCE

The ABS defines businesses with a web presence as those with a website, home page or other web presence, but excludes those listed solely as part of an online listing. Web presence also explicitly excludes those that have a social media presence as their only web presence.

Overall, almost half of all businesses had a web presence (49%).

Proportion of businesses with a web presence, by employment size, 2012-13 to 2014-15

The proportion of businesses with a web presence increased with each successive employment size range. As at 30 June 2015, 39% of businesses with 0-4 persons employed had a web presence, compared with 91% of businesses with 200 or more persons employed.

The Arts and recreation services industry had the highest proportion of businesses with a web presence (73%), followed by those in the Information media and telecommunications industry (71%). Agriculture, forestry and fishing had the lowest proportion of businesses with a web presence (10%).
