ABOUT THIS PUBLICATION
The estimates in this release cover the performance of selected industries compiled from the annual Economic Activity Survey (EAS) and from Business Activity Statement (BAS) data reported to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) based on current prices. Measures of gross value added (GVA) for all industries are available as part of the Australian System of National Accounts, 2014-15 (cat. no. 5204.0). The national accounts estimates include businesses classified to industries not in scope of the Economic Activity Survey. This includes current price estimates on Financial and insurance services, as well as Ownership of dwellings and the General Government sector. For more information on the scope of the collection for Australian Industry, 2014-15 please refer to paragraphs 6-21 of the Explanatory Notes. The estimates in this publication are based on the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC), 2006 edition (cat. no. 1292.0).
Estimates of employment are at end June.
Arts and recreation services
Additional data were collected for the Arts and recreation services division in 2014-15. These have been published in this issue in the 'Arts and recreation services' datacube on the Downloads page.
CHANGES TO EAS DATA COLLECTION
Improvements were made in the collection of capital expenditure data in the EAS 2014-15 to meet National Accounts requirements. The level of detail collected for Capital work done for own use and Capital expenditure and disposals of assets was expanded and will continue in the future. Please refer to the Glossary for further details.
The ABS conducts a rotating program of detailed industry surveys. For the 2014-15 financial year, the ABS undertook surveys into the Arts and recreation services industry (ANZSIC Division R). Detailed results and a feature article Arts and recreation services are included in this release. For 2015-16, the ABS will be conducting a survey of the Professional, scientific and technical services (ANZSIC Division M) and the Film, Television and Digital games industries and these results are expected to be released in mid 2017.
