LIVESTOCK SLAUGHTERINGS AND OTHER DISPOSALS
  • In 2012-13, the gross value of total livestock slaughterings and other disposals decreased by 4% from the previous year to $13.2 billion.
  • The gross value of cattle and calves decreased slightly to $7.7 billion, with increased slaughter numbers offset by reduced average prices.
  • Widespread dry conditions, in addition to a decline in exports, were the drivers behind a decrease in the gross value of sheep and lambs to $2.2 billion (down 23%).
  • The gross value of pigs remained steady at $934 million.
  • The gross value of poultry increased by 7% to $2.2 billion.
