SUMMARY OF FINDINGS


WHEAT GRAIN STORED

Wheat grain stored by wheat grain users at the end of February 2009 increased by 0.2% from January 2009 to 630 thousand tonnes.


WHEAT GRAIN USED

The estimate of wheat grain used in February 2009 was 1.8 million tonnes, an increase of 10.5% from last month. Domestic usage accounted for 384 thousand tonnes (21.0%), and 1.4 million tonnes (79.0%) were exported.

The total wheat grain used since the end of September 2008 was 6.9 million tonnes. Domestic use of wheat grain continued to be highest in New South Wales at 168 thousand tonnes for the month of February 2009.

The main exporting state continued to be Western Australia (806 thousand tonnes) followed by New South Wales (267 thousand tonnes) for the month of February 2009.


WHEAT GRAIN COMMITTED

At 28 February 2009, there were 4.7 million tonnes committed, i.e. under contract for domestic use within Australia or for export. This represented an increase of 2.2% from the January estimate of 4.6 million tonnes.

Of the total wheat grain committed in Australia, 3.7 million tonnes (77.4%) were contracted for export, and 1.1 million tonnes (22.6%) were contracted for domestic use.
