MINING INDUSTRIES PRODUCER PRICE INDEXES

INPUT TO THE COAL MINING INDUSTRY

Input to the Coal mining industry fell 1.0% in the June quarter 2014. This follows a rise of 1.5% in the March quarter 2014. Through the year to the June quarter 2014, the Input to the Coal mining industry index rose 2.9%.

The most significant contributor this quarter were falls in the prices paid for petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing and fossil fuel electricity generation.

MANUFACTURING INDUSTRIES PRODUCER PRICE INDEXES

In the June quarter 2014, the Input to the Manufacturing industries price index fell 1.1%, while the Output of the Manufacturing industries price index fell 0.1%. Through the year to the June quarter 2014, the Input to the Manufacturing industries price index rose 3.9%, while the Output of the Manufacturing industries price index rose 3.7%.

Major contributors to the fall in the Input to the Manufacturing industries price index were prices paid for metal ore mining (-4.7%) and oil and gas extraction (-4.4%). Products contributing to these falls were iron ore and crude oil. Partly offsetting these falls were rises in the prices paid for agriculture (+2.5%).

Major contributors to the fall in the Output of the Manufacturing industries price index were prices received for petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (-3.6%). Products contributing to these falls were diesel and unleaded petrol. Partly offsetting these falls were rises in the prices received for printing (+5.0%).

CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRIES PRODUCER PRICE INDEXES

INPUT TO THE HOUSE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

The Input to the House construction industry price index rose 1.6% in the June quarter 2014. This follows a rise of 0.4% in the March quarter 2014. The most significant contributors this quarter were rises in the prices paid for timber, board and joinery (+2.0%), other materials (+1.5%), plumbing products (+2.9%) and other metal products (+1.0%).

Melbourne (+1.4%), Perth (+2.2%), Sydney (+1.4%), Brisbane (+1.5%), Adelaide (+1.2%) and Hobart (+0.2%) all rose in the June quarter 2014.

Through the year to the June quarter 2014, the Input to the House construction industry price index rose 2.4%. This rise was mainly attributed to increases in the prices paid for timber, board and joinery (+4.1%) and other materials (+1.2%).

OUTPUT OF THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRIES

Output of the Construction industries, Subdivision 30 - Building construction rose 1.2% and Class 3101 - Road and bridge construction rose 0.5% for the June quarter 2014.

Subdivision 30 - Building construction was driven by rises in the prices received for Class 3011 - House Construction which rose 1.6%, which was driven by rises in Victoria (+3.2%) and New South Wales (+1.7%).

Through the year to the June quarter 2014, the price index of Subdivision 30 - Building construction rose 2.1%. This rise was driven by increases in the prices received for Class 3011 - House construction (+3.0%), Class 3020 - Non-residential building construction (+1.2%) and Class 3019 - Other residential building construction (+1.4%).

Through the year to the June quarter 2014, the Class 3101 - Road and bridge construction rose 2.3%.

SERVICES INDUSTRIES PRODUCER PRICE INDEXES

OUTPUT OF THE ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD SERVICES INDUSTRIES

Output of the Accommodation and food services industries recorded falls for the June quarter 2014 in the prices received for Group 440 - Accommodation (-5.9%).


OUTPUT OF THE TRANSPORT, POSTAL AND WAREHOUSING INDUSTRIES

Output of the Transport, postal and warehousing industries recorded rises for the June quarter 2014 in the prices received for Group 471 - Rail freight transport services (+4.8%), Group 510 - Postage and Courier pick-up and delivery services (+2.9%).


OUTPUT OF THE INFORMATION MEDIA AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRIES

Output of the Information media and telecommunications industries recorded rises for the June quarter 2014 in the prices received for Group 541 - Newspaper, periodical, book and directory publishing (+0.5%) (driven by Class 5411 - Newspaper publishing (+0.6%)).


OUTPUT OF THE RENTAL, HIRING AND REAL ESTATE SERVICES INDUSTRIES

Output of the Rental, hiring and real estate services industries recorded rises for the June quarter 2014 in the prices received for Class 6720 - Real estate services (+1.3%) and Group 663 - Other goods and equipment rental and hiring (+1.1%) (driven by Class 6631 - Heavy machinery and scaffolding hire (+1.6%).


OUTPUT OF THE PROFESSIONAL, SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL SERVICES INDUSTRIES

Output of the Professional, scientific and technical services industries recorded rises for the June quarter 2014 in the prices received for Class 6962 - Management and related consultancy services (+0.5%) and Group 693 Legal and accounting services (+0.1%).


OUTPUT OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE AND SUPPORT SERVICES INDUSTRIES

Output of the Administrative and support services industries recorded rises for the June quarter 2014 in the prices received for Group 729 - Other administrative services (+0.5%) (driven by Class 7294 - Call centre operation (+4.6%)) and Group 721 - Employment Services (+0.1%) (Driven by Class 7211 - Employment placement and recruitment services (+0.8%)).


OUTPUT OF THE PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND SAFETY INDUSTRIES

Output of the Public administration and safety industries recorded rises for the June quarter 2014 in the prices received for Class 7712 - Investigation and security services (+0.1%).
