The ABS has introduced six new datacubes (listed below) as part of the product set Labour Force, Australia, Detailed, Quarterly (cat. no. 6291.0.55.003). The industry and occupation classifications used in these new datacubes differs from the classifications used in the existing datacubes. The existing datacubes use the 1993 version of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) and the second edition of the Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO). These classifications have since been revised. The industry classification used in the new datacubes is the 2006 version of ANZSIC and the occupation classification used is the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupation (ANZSCO). These revisions to the classifications were made to provide more contemporary classifications which take into account issues such as changes in the structure and composition of the economy, changing user demands and compatibility with major international classification standards.
The datacubes using the ANZSIC 2006 and ANZSCO classifications contain quarterly estimates from August 2006, the first month these classifications were used in the Labour Force Survey (LFS). All LFS products which use the ANZSIC 1993 and ASCO second edition classifications will continue to be released until November 2008, after which only estimates using the new classifications will be available.
