UNDEREMPLOYMENT RATE TREND ESTIMATES


MALES

The trend estimate of the underemployment rate for males fell from 5.6% in November 2001 to 4.3% in May 2008 before rising to 6.3% in August 2009. The trend has since fallen to 5.4% in November 2011.

FEMALES

The trend estimate of the underemployment rate for females generally fell from 9.6% in November 2001 to 7.8% in May 2008. The trend then increased to 9.8% in August 2009. The trend then fell to 9.0% in November 2010 before rising to 9.3% in November 2011.

PERSONS

The trend estimate of the underemployment rate for persons generally fell from 7.4% in November 2001 to 5.9% in May 2008. The trend then rose to 7.9% in August 2009 before generally falling to 7.0% in May 2011 then rising to 7.2% in November 2011.
