CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE

IMPROVEMENT IN NOMINEE ESTIMATES

An improved methodology for compiling nominee data has been implemented in line with the Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual, Sixth Edition (BPM6). The implementation of the new methodology also includes updated sectoral and industry allocation of security issuers based on the Standard Economic Sector Classifications of Australia (SESCA), 2008 (cat. no. 1218.0) and the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC), 2006 (cat. no. 1292.0), and more accurate counterpart country data. The resulting revisions mainly affect portfolio investment liabilities, equity and investment fund shares and debt securities from September quarter 2010. The technical note released in the June 2014 issue of Balance of Payments and International Investment Position, Australia (cat. no. 5302.0) provides more detailed information regarding the new methodology implemented.

REVISIONS

Revisions in this issue of the publication will include revised estimates derived from the improved data collected from the nominee collection between calendar years 2012 to 2014. The revisions align estimates from the nominee collection to SESCA 08 and ANZSIC 06 and provide a full counterpart country profile associated with the purchase or sale of securities through nominee companies. This will only affect Foreign Investment in Australia - Portfolio Investment statistics. Further revisions include incorporation of new estimates from the latest survey and administrative data which has resulted in revisions to International Investment data back to calendar year 2010.

ROUNDING

Discrepancies may occur between totals in this publication and the same aggregates from other sources, and between sums of component items and totals due to rounding.
