NOTES

IN THIS ISSUE

The Land Account: Queensland, Experimental Estimates, 2013 is the third Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Land Account (see Land Account: Victoria, Experimental Estimates, 2012 (ABS cat. no. 4609.0.55.002) and Land Account: Great Barrier Reef Region, Experimental Estimates, 2011 (ABS cat. no. 4609.0.55.001)). This publication provides statistics on land to inform decision-making, research and discussion about Queensland.

The data is presented in a series of statistical tables as well as in a spatial format. There are three components to this release:

  • The first component comprises a series of statistical tables that show, for the State of Queensland and associated Natural Resource Management (NRM) regions, land use classified by land cover (rateable value and area).
  • The second component combines Google Earth® with data for each of the 11,039 Statistical Area Level 1 (SA1) areas in Queensland (For an explanation of the SA1 from the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) refer to the Explanatory Notes.)
  • The third component of the release is the SA1 socio-economic spatial layer in tab delimited text, MapInfo and ESRI Geodatabase formats. These will enable users to overlay the socio-economic layer with other bio-physical layers (e.g. soil condition, elevation and slope) to undertake further analysis.

While ideally a land account should present data as at a single point in time, this is extremely difficult in practice and data in this release covers different time periods. This should be considered in interpreting the outputs. A detailed introduction and methodology overview can be found in the Explanatory Notes.
