SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS

In trend terms, short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during June 2018 (765,000 movements) increased 0.2% when compared with May 2018 (763,200 movements). Currently, short-term visitor arrivals are 3.1% higher than in June 2017.

The following table presents the top ten source countries (based on original estimates) for short-term visitor arrivals during June 2018. When trend estimates for short-term visitor arrivals for June 2017 and June 2018 were compared, the highest percentage increases were recorded for India (19.6%), followed by Hong Kong (7.9%) and Japan (6.3%). The highest percentage decreases were recorded for Malaysia (-10.1%), Indonesia (-6.3%) and the United States of America (-6.1%).

SHORT-TERM RESIDENT RETURNS

In trend terms, short-term resident returns to Australia during June 2018 (930,600 movements) increased 0.6% when compared with May 2018 (924,700 movements). Currently, short-term resident returns are 5.7% higher than in June 2017.

The following table presents the top ten destination countries (based on original estimates) for short-term resident returns in June 2018. When trend estimates for short-term resident returns for June 2017 and June 2018 were compared, the highest percentage increases were recorded for Japan (25.0%), followed by China (15.4%) and Singapore (12.6%). The highest percentage decreases were recorded for Thailand (-4.9%), New Zealand (-1.5%) and Fiji (-0.4%).
