SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS

In trend terms, short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during July 2018 (766,600 movements) increased 0.1% when compared with June 2018 (765,600 movements). Currently, short-term visitor arrivals are 2.8% higher than in July 2017.

The following table presents the top ten source countries (based on original estimates) for short-term visitor arrivals during July 2018. When trend estimates for short-term visitor arrivals for July 2017 and July 2018 were compared, the highest percentage increases were recorded for India (17.7%), followed by Hong Kong (9.2%) and Japan (5.6%). The highest percentage decreases were recorded for Malaysia (-9.8%), the United States of America (-6.8%) and Singapore (-5.9%).

SHORT-TERM RESIDENT RETURNS

In trend terms, short-term resident returns to Australia during July 2018 (931,800 movements) increased 0.3% when compared with June 2018 (929,200 movements). Currently, short-term resident returns are 5.8% higher than in July 2017.

The following table presents the top ten destination countries (based on original estimates) for short-term resident returns in July 2018. When trend estimates for short-term resident returns for July 2017 and July 2018 were compared, the highest percentage increases were recorded for Japan (22.4%), followed by China (14.0%) and Singapore (13.7%). The highest percentage decreases were recorded for Thailand (-5.4%), New Zealand (-0.3%) and Fiji (-0.2%).
