SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS

In trend terms, short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during July 2017 (745,400 movements) increased 0.6% when compared with June 2017 (741,400 movements). Currently, short-term visitor arrivals are 7.1% higher than in July 2016.

The following table presents the top ten source countries (based on original estimates) for short-term visitor arrivals during July 2017. When trend estimates for short-term visitor arrivals for July 2016 and July 2017 were compared, the highest percentage increase was recorded for China (18.0%), followed by India (14.6%), and Hong Kong (13.2%). The highest percentage decreases were recorded for the United Kingdom (-1.0%), Malaysia (-0.6%) and South Korea (-0.6%).

SHORT-TERM RESIDENT RETURNS

In trend terms, short-term resident returns from Australia during July 2017 (884,300 movements) increased 0.1% when compared with June 2017 (883,800 movements). Currently, short-term resident returns are 6.5% higher than in July 2016.

The following table presents the top ten destination countries (based on original estimates) for short-term resident returns in July 2017. When trend estimates for short-term resident returns for July 2016 and July 2017 were compared, the highest percentage increase was recorded for Vietnam (25.6%), followed by China (18.3%), and Italy (16.5%).The only percentage decrease was recorded for Indonesia (-4.7%).
