JUNE KEY POINTS

SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during June 2019 (793,900 movements) increased by 0.5% when compared with May 2019 (789,600 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.5% for April 2019 and 0.6% for May 2019. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 3.1% higher than in June 2018.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During June 2019, short-term visitor arrivals (791,900 movements) decreased by 3.0% when compared with May 2019 (816,400 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 0.2% for April 2019 and a monthly increase of 6.3% for May 2019.
  • Original estimates: There were 660,300 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in June 2019.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT RETURNS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident returns during June 2019 (951,900 movements) increased by 0.7% when compared with May 2019 (945,500 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.5% for April 2019 and 0.7% for May 2019. When compared to June 2018, the current trend estimate for returns is 2.9% higher.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During June 2019, short-term resident returns (953,700 movements) decreased by 2.3% when compared with May 2019 (976,400 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 0.7% for April 2019 and a monthly increase of 6.0% for May 2019.
  • Original estimates: There were 842,000 short-term resident returns to Australia in June 2019.
