Summary In this issue Births Fertility rates States and Territories Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander births and fertility Fertility Maps About this Release September most common month for babies born in Australia (Media Release)	CAPITAL CITY MAPS - TOTAL FERTILITY RATES The following maps of Australian capital cities by Statistical Area Level 2 (SA2) illustrate areas of higher and lower fertility. Regions classified as "Not applicable" either have no usual resident population (such as industrial zones and National Parks) or, have too few usual residents contributing to fertility rates and data is not published for that SA2 in 2016. Total Fertility Rate Sydney, by Statistical Area Level 2, 2016 Sydney's lower fertility areas are clustered around the CBD, and extend to the eastern suburbs, inner north and inner south. Higher rates are seen in the south-west and outer west. Total Fertility Rate Greater Melbourne, by Statistical Area Level 2, 2016 Melbourne's lower fertility rates are concentrated in the inner suburbs and middle suburbia to the east and south-east. The higher fertility rates are seen in the outer west, north and south-east. Total Fertility Rate Brisbane, by Statistical Area Level 2, 2016 Brisbane's lower fertility areas are concentrated in central Brisbane either side of the river, while some of the higher fertility areas are in the north, the highest rates are in south and outer west. Total Fertility Rate Greater Adelaide, by Statistical Area Level 2, 2016 Inner Adelaide has lower fertility rates, while the outer northern and outer southern areas have the higher rates. Total Fertility Rate Greater Perth, by Statistical Area Level 2, 2016 Inner Perth has lower fertility rates, while the outer northern and south eastern areas have the higher rates. Total Fertility Rate Greater Hobart, by Statistical Area Level 2, 2016 Four inner SA2s, including Hobart and Sandy Bay, have lower fertility rates and the remaining greater Hobart area has higher fertility. Total Fertility Rate Greater Darwin, by Statistical Area Level 2, 2016 Greater Darwin's lowest fertility rates are in Darwin City, followed by surrounding SA2s. Most of the remaining SA2s have higher fertility rates. Total Fertility Rate Canberra, by Statistical Area Level 2, 2016 The inner north and inner south east SA2s in Canberra have the lowest fertility rates, while the north and north west have recorded higher fertility rates.
