APRIL KEY POINTS

TREND ESTIMATES

  • The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings rose for the sixth consecutive month, to 667,000. This was the highest figure recorded since May 2005.
  • The trend estimate for beef production rose for the seventh consecutive month, to 179,000 tonnes. This was the highest figure recorded since May 2005.
  • The trend estimate for pigs slaughterings fell for the sixth consecutive month, to 428,000. This was the lowest figure recorded since June 2001.
  • The trend estimate for calf slaughterings rose for the fourth consecutive month, to 73,400 tonnes. This was the highest figure recorded since September 2004.
