• Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during May 2012 (503,600 movements) decreased slightly compared with April 2012 (503,700 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.2% in March 2012 and 0.1% in April 2012. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 4.5% higher than in May 2011.
• Seasonally adjusted estimates: During May 2012, short-term visitor arrivals (497,700 movements) recorded a decrease of 1.7% compared with April 2012 (506,100 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 1.8% in March 2012 and a decrease of 0.9% in April 2012.
• Original estimates: There were 393,500 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in May 2012.

• Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during May 2012 (680,900 movements) increased 0.7% compared with April 2012 (676,200 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.8% in March 2012 and 0.8% in April 2012. The current trend estimate for departures is 5.1% higher than in May 2011.
• Seasonally adjusted estimates: During May 2012, short-term resident departures (684,000 movements) increased 1.5% compared with April 2012 (674,200 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 3.2% in March 2012 and a decrease of 0.6% in April 2012.
• Original estimates: There were 652,000 short-term resident departures from Australia during May 2012.
