SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during March 2011 (487,900 movements) decreased 0.8% compared with February 2011 (491,800 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 0.7% in January 2011 and 0.8% in February 2011. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 1.5% higher than in March 2010.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During March 2011, short-term visitor arrivals (479,500 movements) recorded a decrease of 2.1% compared with February 2011 (490,000 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 0.3% in January 2011 and 2.3% in February 2011.
  • Original estimates: There were 501,100 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in March 2011.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during March 2011 (593,000 movements) decreased 1.6% compared with February 2011 (602,700 movements). This followed a marginal monthly decrease for January 2011 and a decrease of 0.2% for February 2011. The current trend estimate for departures is 4.0% higher than in March 2010.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During March 2011, short-term resident departures (575,600 movements) decreased by 5.1% compared with February 2011 (606,900 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 2.1% for January 2011 and a decrease of 1.4% for February 2011.
  • Original estimates: There were 532,600 short-term resident departures from Australia during March 2011.
