Preface

StatSearch aims to provide a comprehensive, yet user-friendly guide to sources of statistical information about Western Australia. It is an initiative that addresses the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) mission "to assist and encourage informed decision making within governments and the community".

StatSearch will direct users with an interest in regional statistics to a wide range of ABS social, cultural and economic information. Over 200 references to ABS data sources have been listed under easy-to-understand headings in a total of 22 topics. Every effort has been made to eliminate, or at least minimise, jargon, acronyms and abbreviations.

An important inclusion in this guide is the reference to over 70 government departments and other organisations able to provide regional data. Future versions of StatSearch are planned to include even more organisations with regional data. Whilst directing you to these additional information sources, the ABS cannot guarantee the quality of the information nor its comparability with ABS data.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics would like to keep this directory as up to-date as possible. Suggestions for improvements to StatSearch, or advice of external organisations and data sources that do not appear in this version, are welcomed. A form for this purpose is provided in the Invitation to Update Directories, or you may direct any comments in writing to the
