ABOUT THESE STATISTICS

The topics included in the innovation module of the Business Characteristics Survey (BCS) presented here, cover the range of practices specifically related to innovation or factors that influenced innovative activity. The topics chosen for the innovation module were developed in consultation with key users of innovation statistics and draw strongly on the Oslo Manual, Guidelines for Collecting and Interpreting Innovation Data (Third Edition, 2005).

In addition to the statistics presented here, the BCS collects a wide range of other topics related to more general business practices and characteristics; estimates for these can be cross-classified by innovation status. These outputs present the user with the opportunity to directly compare the characteristics of innovation-active businesses with those for non innovation-active businesses. These data will be included as part of Selected Characteristics of Australian Business (cat. no. 8167.0), see Explanatory Note 22.
