Birthplace and Indigenous Status

Of all persons employed in cultural industries, 72.9% (260,958) were born in Australia. Another 12.8% (45,735) were born in main English speaking countries and 13.5% (48,354) were from non main English speaking countries. By comparison, for all employed persons, 71.1% were born in Australia, 7.9% were born in the main English speaking countries and 19.8% were born in non main English speaking countries. (Table 12)

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people made up 1.0% (3,502) of all persons employed in cultural industries for their main job. The cultural industries employing the highest numbers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were the Nature Reserves and Conservation Parks Operation industry (638), and the Creative Artists, Musicians, Writers and Performers industry (635).
