GROUP 41 – GAMBLING

Group 41 Gambling consists of units mainly engaged in providing gambling services such as casinos, totalisator or bookmaker betting facilities on racetracks, bingo halls, video gaming terminals, lottery agencies and off-track betting agencies. It consists of the following classes:

      411 Casinos; and
      419 Other gambling services.

411 CASINOS

Definition

This class consists of units mainly engaged in operating a range of gambling services such as poker/gaming machines and table wagering games. To be included in this class, units must offer a range of gambling activities in a physical venue to which the public has access. Included are units providing accommodation, food and beverage services in addition to a range of gambling services.


Exclusions / References

Units mainly engaged in:

(a) operating lotteries or lottery agencies, or providing totalisator services are included in Class 419 Other gambling;

(b) providing Internet gambling services only are included in Class 419 Other gambling;

(c) providing facilities for hospitality, socialising and associated entertainment (and may also provide gaming machines) are included in Group 43 Hospitality; and

(d) providing accommodation are out of scope of the classification.

Casino operation (in a building to which the general public have access)

Internet gambling service provided as one of a range of otherwise non-Internet gambling services

Table wagering game operation



419 OTHER GAMBLING SERVICES

Definition

This class consists of units mainly engaged in operating lotteries, selling lottery tickets or providing any other gambling service not included elsewhere in the classification.


Exclusions / References

Units mainly engaged in:

(a) Internet service provision are included in Class 268 Electronic information services;

(b) providing sports and physical recreation opportunities to participants or entertainment for spectators are included in Class 322 Other sports and physical recreation venues, grounds and facilities or Class 332 Sports and physical recreation clubs, teams and sports professionals;

(c) operating a casino are included in Class 411 Casinos;

(d) providing facilities for hospitality, socialising and associated entertainment (and may also provide gaming machines) are included in Group 43 Hospitality;

(e) selling alcoholic beverages both for the consumption on and off the premises (which could include food and gambling services and/or live entertainment) are included in Class 431 Pubs, taverns and bars; and

(f) operating hospitality clubs (which could include gambling, sporting or other social or entertainment facilities) are included in Class 433 Clubs (Hospitality).
