APPENDIX 3 SEVERITY OF DISABILITY

SEVERITY OF DISABILITY

Both SDAC and SET categorise disability by levels of severity based on need for assistance. A full explanation of these categories is available in the publication ABS Sources of Disability Information (cat.no. 4431.0.55.002).

This article uses only two of these severity measures as they show particular concordance with the SDAC - the combined 'Profound/severe core-activity limitation' and 'Specific limitation or restriction'. 'No disability or long term health condition' will be used for comparative purposes (Table 5).
