There were an estimated 3,877 farms in Tasmania at 30 June 2005, a figure little changed from the previous year. This reverses the recent trend of decreasing numbers as some farmers leave the industry.

The Statistical Division which recorded the highest number of farms in Tasmania at 30 June 2005 was the Mersey-Lyell Statistical Division (1,467) which accounted for 38% of farms in the state.
