MINERAL PRODUCTION

  • In original terms, production of diamonds fell by 87% in the June quarter 2009, following a 16% fall in the previous quarter. Diamond production in the June quarter 2009 was down by 81% compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
  • Production of bauxite decreased marginally (-1.9%) in the June quarter 2009, following a small decrease (-1.6%) in the March quarter. Production levels were slightly lower (-0.6%) than in the same quarter of the previous year.
  • The quantity of iron ore produced in the June quarter 2009 was 24% higher than in the previous quarter and 12% higher than in the June quarter 2008.
