6.19. Most data for the goods component come from international trade statistics, including many of the data used to adjust these statistics for balance of payments purposes. Nevertheless, several other sources are also important. The data sources and methods to compile the various goods standard components are shown in table 6.8.

Debits

International trade statistics (ITS)

Series compiled from ITS which are adjusted for both coverage and timing purposes. These adjustments relate to imports of ships and aircraft (using SPTE) and defence equipment (using Department of Defence advice). All imports values are adjusted from the customs value in ITS to the f.o.b. transactions value basis. In addition occasional adjustments are made to overcome significant fluctuations in the volume of imports entries processed (ITS). Adjustments are also made to exclude certain goods for processing.
