Recipients of Department of Family and Community Services benefits may also be eligible for a range of supplementary payments and entitlements, including rent assistance.

At 1 June 2001, the highest proportion of Rent Assistance recipients was located in the Hobart local government area (74.3 recipients per 1,000 persons), while the lowest rate of recipients were located in King Island local government area (25.5 recipients per 1,000 persons).
