In 2005 there were a similar number of male and female deaths. For both genders, the number of deaths increased substantially for each age group above 50-54.

For the older age groups, the age distribution of deaths differs substantially between genders. For example, females aged 85 and above accounted for 40.6% of females deaths. In contrast, males aged 85 and above only accounted for 20.0% of males deaths.
