As at 30 June 2006, there were 1,250 public hospital beds available in Tasmania. Some 43.0% of these were located in hospitals in the Greater Hobart-Southern Region, 33.2% were in Northern Region hospitals, and 23.8% were in hospitals in the Mersey-Lyell Region.

Of the 1,250 public hospital beds in Tasmania, 97.2% were used for acute purposes.
