Q. What is the Census and why do we have one?
A. The Census of Population and Housing is the largest statistical operation undertaken by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). It aims to accurately measure the number of people in Australia on Census Night, their key characteristics, and the dwellings in which they live.
Census information is used by all sections of the community, from state and federal government to town planners, community groups, students, large and small businesses.
