| Dr Siu-Ming Tam is the First Australian Statistician of Methodology and Data Management Division at the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
Siu-Ming joined the ABS in 1987 and has since worked in a number of areas including classifications and standards, population surveys and population censuses. Prior to 1987, he was with the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong SAR (China), working on statistical computing, statistical consultancy, household surveys and population censuses.
In his immediately preceding role, Siu-Ming was the First Assistant Statistician responsible for leading the Information Management Transformation program. Between late 2000 and mid 2007, he was in charge of the Information Management and Census Division; and from July 2007, he led the Integrated Collection and Dissemination Services Division, overseeing the ABS collection activities for businesses and households, and the ABS dissemination services.
Siu-Ming has a PhD in statistics from the Australian National University, is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute and also an Accredited Statistician of the Statistical Society of Australia.
He is currently a member of the Steering Committee on Data Dissemination established by the United Nations Statistics Division and a past Vice President of the International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS). He was also the Editor-in-Chief of the Official Journal of the IAOS between 2007 to 2011. |
